La Cattedrale di Ferrara ha origini medievali ancora ben visibili nei prospetti esterni, mentre l’interno presenta caratteri Settecenteschi, frutto di un complesso intervento di ristrutturazione, che ha occultato quel che è rimasto della struttura originaria. A seguito del sisma del 2012 è stato approntato, con finanziamento della Regione Emilia-Romagna all’interno del Piano di Ricostruzione post sisma 2012, un lotto funzionale relativo alla sola messa in sicurezza e consolidamento strutturale degli otto pilastri, rimandando ad una fase successiva i restauri delle finiture e ogni analisi su di esse.
Lo studio in corso, incentrato sui pilastri maggiori, sta ritrovando all’interno dei pilastri settecenteschi quelli medievali partendo da fonti storiche frammentarie, per fornire informazioni basilari ai fini del progetto strutturale, con straordinari ritrovamenti di parti ancora intatte.

The Cathedral of Ferrara has medieval origins that are still clearly visible in the external elevations, while the interior has eighteenth-century characters, the result of a complex renovation which, presumably, conceals the original structure.

Following the 2012 earthquake, a functional lot relating to the safety and structural consolidation of the eight pillars was prepared, with funding from the Emilia-Romagna Region as part of the Post-earthquake Reconstruction Plan 2012, leaving the restorations of the finishes and any analysis on them to a later phase.
The current study, focused on the major pillars, is finding medieval pillars within the eighteenth-century pillars from referenced of fragmentary historical sources, to provide basic information for the structural project, with extraordinary findings of parts still intact.
